Medan International School is authorized to offer two International Baccalaureate Curriculum Programmes.

  • Primary Years Programme—2007 to 2012
  • Middle Years Programme—2006 to 2011

The curriculum is for international students across the world looking for an international pathway to university. It is not linked to the Indonesian school system.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE CURRICULUM

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) caters for students between the ages of 3 and 11 years. It is a transdisciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child, according to their needs and expectations - academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural.

The PYP combines the best research and practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools, to create a relevant and engaging educational framework for all children.

Central to the PYP philosophy is a commitment to developing students’ concepts, attitudes and skills of inquiry to help them become successful lifelong learners. In the Programme of Inquiry students explore themes and topics that combine various subject areas.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 12 to 16 years. This period in a student’s life requires an educational programme that provides inquiry, challenge, creativity, discipline and flexibility to aid the student’s growth towards independence and responsible participation in society.

A feature of the MYP is the Areas of Interaction where skills, attitudes and concepts are developed through transdisciplinary studies that integrate subject areas.

Students who complete MYP to Grade 10 will have their graduation certificate and academic record accepted by schools that offer the IB Diploma, which is recognized for placement in universities worldwide.
